Broadband and home phone provider AOL has increased its call connection fee, pushing the price of making a call up by more than 3p.
AOL Talk (www.aolbroadband.co.uk), the phone service from AOL broadband, has increased its call connection fee to 9.05p, following similar moves from other landline suppliers.
Call connection fees are charged by your home phone supplier for every call made outside your calling plan. They are a one-off cost, but are charged no matter how long the call lasts.
The fee rose from 8p per call to 9.05p per call on 1 November.
Simon Piper, business development manager at Homephonechoices.co.uk, said: “Home phone and broadband provider AOL’s price increase reflects recent hikes by other home phone giants BT, Sky and Orange.”
Recently, BT (www.bt.com), Direct Save Telecom (www.directsavetelecom.co.uk) and Sky (www.sky.com) all increased the prices of their call connection fees, while cable phone line provider Virgin Media (www.virginmedia.com) cut its call connection fee.
Piper added: “Customers need to be aware of these fees, as they are charged per call. Even if your call only lasts 30 seconds, you will still be charged the call connection fee to make the call, if it is made outside of your calls package.”
