How do I switch providers?

Switching online is really easy - simply fill in your details and your new provider will take care of the rest. It will even tell your old provider that you are leaving. You'll receive an email or letter telling you the date of the switch, and from that date your phone service will be charged by the new provider. There will be no interruption to your service.

Does it cost money to switch providers?

No, the switch itself doesn't cost anything. However, if you are still in contract with your existing provider you may be charged an early termination fee, therefore it's important to make sure you are not in contract before proceeding with your switch.

How long does it take to switch?

The switch should take place within one to four weeks.

Will I still get 1471 and 1571 services?

Yes, these services will still be available with your new phone provider, though some providers do charge for these. Check the "Call features" tab for further details.

Will I still receive bills from BT?

Depending on which provider and package you choose, you may still receive a bill from BT for your line rental. Some providers offer line rental and call packages, while others offer calls-only. If you switch to a package that includes both, you'll no longer be billed by BT. If you choose a call-only package, BT will continue to bill you for line rental.

How can I pay my bills?

Most providers encourage you to pay by direct debit, either monthly or quarterly. Paying this way is far more convenient for you and the provider, and some providers will offer cheaper line rental or discounts for paying this way.

Will my phone number change?

No, however in some instances this cannot be guaranteed. You can contact your chosen provider after placing your order to double check and if necessary cancel your switch.

Will an engineer have to visit?

No, in most cases an engineer will not be required to visit your property. However if you require a new line to be installed this may be necessary. Should this be the case, your new provider will contact you to arrange this.

Will switching phone provider affect my broadband connection?

No, you will continue to be billed separately for your broadband. Read your broadband provider’s terms and conditions carefully to be sure - it may stipulate that you must have your line rental and broadband from the same provider. If you have any concerns you should contact your broadband provider directly.

What if I want to cancel my switch?

In accordance with Ofcom’s General Condition 24, you have the legal right to cancel your order from the point of sale until your service has been activated. All information and relevant contact details are contained in your confirmation email.
