O2, one of the UK’s largest mobile phone operators, also offers fixed-line and mobile broadband contracts. From March 2010, customers will be able to save even more by bundling their home phone services with O2 as well. (15/2/10)
Although O2’s home phone packages will only be available to O2 home broadband customers, if you’re not already an O2 customer, switching both your broadband and your line rental to the company could help reduce your costs.
O2 is part of the Telefónica group and is one of the biggest telecoms suppliers in the UK, for both consumers and business customers. In September 2009 it had over 21 million mobile phone customers and over half a million fixed-line broadband subscribers.
O2’s home phone service will launch in March 2010. Its broadband service has won a number of awards however, since it was launched in October 2007, including:
O2’s home phone tariffs will not be available until March 2010, but if you need a new calling plan, or cheaper line rental, why not check other home phone providers? Compare home phone packages with our online comparison service, or have a look at the popular packages below:
The two new home phone tariffs from O2 will include line rental and a calling plan.
O2 mobile customers will be able to sign-up to the unlimited Evening & Weekend Call Plan, which offers line rental, free evening and weekend calls to UK local and national landlines and 8Mb broadband for just £17 a month.
There will also be an Anytime Call Plan, that offers customers unlimited calls to UK local and national numbers at any time of the day and line rental, as well as calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers, and calls to international landlines in over 20 countries.
One of the main advantages of O2’s home phone service is the award-winning broadband connection that each package will be bundled with. The bundled packages will include broadband as well as selected calls and line rental, offering great value for money.
O2’s broadband is available in three packages, with speeds of either 8Mb or 20Mb. All three packages come with “unlimited downloads” and a generous fair usage policy. The company also offers free, UK-based, 24/7 technical support to all its broadband customers, a free wireless router and free McAfee internet security software.
Switching your broadband and home phone services to O2 is really easy, and can be done in minutes online. If you already have an active phone line, there will be no interruption to service, and in the majority of cases you’ll be able to keep the same phone number. The calling features you already have, such as caller ID, will stay the same. You’ll also have exactly the same access to the operator and emergency numbers.
The switch will be carried out at your local telephone exchange, so an engineer won’t need to visit your home, and O2 will tell your existing phone and broadband suppliers that it will be billing you for your broadband, line rental and calls.
If you don’t have a phone line, or if you are currently a cable phone customer (i.e. Virgin Media), you will have to arrange to have a line installed by BT. There is normally a charge for this - you can call BT on 0800 028 4474 to discuss landline installation and costs.
