Line rental options

Getting both your line rental and calls from BT can make things easier, but switching to another provider could save you money on your monthly phone bills…

Wherever you live, there are a number of options when it comes to choosing the line rental for your home phone service, so it’s important you choose one that suits you and your household’s calling habits. You don’t have to stick with BT, as there are plenty of suppliers with cheaper deals.

What are your line rental options?

Home phone suppliers are now able to buy line rental (on a wholesale basis) from BT and charge their customers for it. In practical terms, this means that you don't have to pay BT separately for line rental anymore - you can take both your calls and your line rental with a different supplier, including YourCalls.net, Primus Saver, and TalkTalk.

What line rental packages are on offer?

Cheap line rental

Primus Saver currently offers the UK’s cheapest line rental for just £7.99 a month, including free evening and weekend calls. This offer is only available through Homephonechoices.co.uk.

Other cheap line rental offers include YourCalls.net (www.yourcalls.net) at £9.69 a month, and Direct Save Telecom (www.directsavetelecom.co.uk) costing £11.30 a month. Both suppliers include free evening and weekend calls with their line rental deals.

Save on your monthly line rental

BT line rental costs £14.60 a month if you pay by monthly direct debit. TalkTalk line rental currently costs £13.80. If you want cheaper calls and you're thinking of switching to an alternative phone provider, you can switch line rental as well to save more money.

This is very good info, I didn't realise you could save so much money by shopping around for line rental but if I get my line rental with Primus on the line rental saver package for £6.79 will that be compatible with my broadband and unlimited calls package with AOL? Currently, I pay £13 per month for line rental with BT! - Jun 5 2011 4:01PM

Are there activated cell phones that tourists can rent while on vacation in England? Will primarily be in London area with side trips to Bath and York. If so, what is the carrier's name / tele no. / pricing / website information so that I may inquire further.

Thank you very much !

Does the price you quote of £9.15 per calender month include VAT.

I am considering switching 7 phone lines from BT that are installed in the lifts for emergency purposes only, in the apartments were we live. Would your "Primus Saver" be suitable please?

Your reply would be appreciated.

When anything goes wrong with the phone line the setvice is absolutely non-existant. They treat you as if you are a nuisance. they give you appointments but do not keep them and do not contact you to say why. You spend a lot of time on your mobile phone listening to music and not getting anywhere. They even give your phone number to someone else. - Jan 22 2010 5:58PM

I switched back to BT after their repeated phone calls for phone only in March at a cost of £21 per month, they now want to increase the monthly fee to £46.80! I feel that I have been "conned". I also have separate BT broadband at £26.90. I somehow think that I am paying far too much but am I locked in to this? - Aug 22 2009 4:57PM
