Virgin Media to increase call charges

Price of calls increases, line rental remains frozen.

Virgin Media has announced that it is making changes to its home phone call tariffs. Call charges will increase by as much as 12% from April this year. However, line rental has been frozen at £13.90.

Daytime call charges are changing from 8.68p a minute to 9.94p a minute on the Talk Weekend (M) and Talk Evening & Weekend packages (L). Evening call charges will also be 9.94p a minute for Talk Weekend customers.

Off-peak calls cost 9.94p a minute between in daytime, and 6.1p a minute on weekends and evenings.

The company also announced that it is changing its inclusive evening calling times. Currently Virgin Media offers unlimited calls to UK landlines and Virgin mobiles from 6pm - 6am. From April, that period changes to between 7pm and 7am.

A company spokesman said: “As part of our on-going review of services, we’re making some changes to our cable pricing from April and we’re writing to those customers affected now to explain what’s happening. On average, customers will see an increase of around £2.68 per month.

“However, as part of our review, we’ve also managed to provide some customer savings and frozen prices such as our phone line rental. We will be proactively contacting existing customers in the coming weeks to make sure that they are on the best value package for them.”
