Provider gains phone and broadband bundle customers in the final three months of 2011.
While many may have expected home phones to have been superseded by their mobile siblings by now, there’s life in the old landline yet.
TalkTalk saw 63,000 of us switch to one of its telephone and broadband bundles in the final three months of 2011, according to its latest financial results.
While the provider lost 46,000 broadband-only customers over the quarter, the growth in phone and broadband customers means that it gained 17,000 “on-net” customers in the three months up to the end of December.
This means that the number of TalkTalk customers that receive broadband and make telephone calls via TalkTalk’s network, rather than BT’s, has grown.
However, another home phone provider, Virgin Media, saw its telephone customer numbers take a slight tumble towards the end of last year.
The company, which has also just released its financial results, had just over 4.13 million telephone customers at the close of 2011, down from just over 4.16 million at the end of 2010.
Research from telecoms regulator Ofcom published late last year revealed that, on average, UK households still spend five hours a month using home phone, even though the majority of us now use a mobile to contact family and friends.
