Who offers free calls to the Channel Islands?

Who offers free calls to the Channel Islands?

Dear Simon, my daughter and her family live in Jersey, and although their telephone number is 01534, BT do not include the Channel Islands within its free evening and weekend calls package.

As these are the numbers I call most of the time, I would be grateful for any information on home phone suppliers which include Channel Islands in their free or cheap calls.

Thank you for your help,

Liz McCafferty, Felixstowe, via email, Updated: Thursday 6 January, 2011

Our expert says...

Hello Liz, because you make the majority of your evening and weekend calls to these numbers, switching to a phone package that offers free calls will really help you cut the cost of your home phone bills.

Using our home phone price comparison service, I have reviewed some of the options available to you. Read more information below…

Packages that include calls to the Channel Islands

Some home phone providers, such as BT (www.bt.com) and TalkTalk (www.talktalk.co.uk) do not include calls to the Channel Islands within their inclusive calls packages, while others do.

The best buy table below shows some of the providers that do include calls to numbers in Jersey and Guernsey in their evening and weekend calls packages, as well as information on monthly line rental costs and the price per minute for a call to the Channel Islands during the day:

As well as offering free evening and weekend calls to numbers in the Channel Islands, the home phone package from the Post Office (www.postoffice.co.uk) also gives customers free weekend calls to UK mobiles and free weekend calls to 40 international destinations.

And as you are in the area to receive a cable phone line, choosing a package from Virgin Media (www.virginmedia.com) is also an option. Its evening and weekend package, Size L, costs £3.50 a month plus £13.90 a month line rental and includes Virgin’s Size M digital TV package for free.

TalkTalk calls to the Channel Islands

Home phone and broadband provider TalkTalk (www.talktalk.co.uk) doesn’t include calls to the Channel Islands in its free evening and weekend calls package, however it charges less than BT:

Provider Provider details Channel Islands day rate Channel Islands evening rate Channel Islands weekend rate
BT www.bt.com 7p 2p 1p
TalkTalk www.talktalk.co.uk 2.76p 1.84p 1.38p

Hope this information is of some help Liz. Making the choice to switch from BT will certainly help you save money on your monthly phone bill.

Hi
We are thinking of moving to Vhannel ISlands in December. We have UK COntract iphone 4 G with O2 ( 6 Months left on contract) and 30 Days Vodaone Notice SIM in UK.
We are wondering what we need to do to have a cheaper Jersey Mobile / or port our numbers as we will be in Jersey initially only for 6/12?
We are really confused as donot want to buy a Jersey contract for 12 Months.
CAn we have a UK SIM which we can use in jersey for Data and making receving calls with inclusive minutes included?
Please advise us. I am sure itt will be a common problems but googling it doesnot make us any wiser?

Thank-you for this information, very useful. I don't know if you can help with this one though. My wife's mother lives in Guernsey, she rents so does not have a landline. Do you know how much a call to a Guernsey mobile (07781) costs? Which are the best providers for such calls?

Thanks
Howard

I was most interested to read this review, since my daughter is shortly moving to Jersey. Are the rates given (for both BT and the cheaper alternatives still valid, would you know ?)

Thanks

Hi I have signed up with BT for 18 months I get free weekend calls, but this does not cover Jersey. Can I take out a package to cover evening and weekend (to include phone calls to Jersey) with another company while I am under contract to BT. Does Tesco's phone plan cover Jersey.
Thanks

Did you know that AOL unlimited ( and any of their packages) offer as standard free call to Jersey Channel Islands !!
Our families are Jersey based and 90% of our calls are to jersey and are all free within that package
