Dear Simon, I’ve seen that BT evening calls now start at 7pm. I'm a Plusnet customer and just wanted to make sure that its evening calls still start at 6pm?
Look forward to hearing from you,

Hi Dot,
Thanks for getting in touch with Homephonechoices.co.uk.
Following BT’s decision to move evening calls from 6pm to 7pm at the start of April 2010, a number of other home phone providers followed suit and moved their evening calls too.
Plusnet was not originally one of these companies, however in January 2011 its free calling period changed in line with BT's and now runs from 7pm-7am.
While customers aren’t losing an hour of free calls - BT switched its free calls time from 6am-6am to 7am-7am - most people would normally make more calls in the evening than they would first thing in the morning.
Lots of home phone providers have recently made changes to the time that their evening and weekend calls start. And if you haven’t read the small print on letters and emails from your supplier, you might get charged for calls that used to be free.
The table below shows the free calls periods of some of the UK’s biggest home phone providers:
| Home phone provider | Current free evening call times |
| BT (www.bt.com) | 7pm-7am |
| TalkTalk (www.talktalk.co.uk) | 7pm-7am |
| Sky (www.sky.com) | 7pm-7am |
| Plusnet (www.plus.net) | 7pm-7am |
| Virgin Media (www.virginmedia.com) | 6pm-6am |
| Primus (www.primussaver.co.uk) | 6pm-6am |
| O2 (www.o2.co.uk) | 6pm-6am |
| Auracall (www.auracall.com) | 6pm-8am |
| Pipex (www.pipex.co.uk) | 6pm-6am |
It’s not just your inclusive calls that you need to think about when choosing a home phone provider. Unless you're signing up to an anytime calls package, you'll need to find out how much out of bundle calls will set you back.
And even if you are on an anytime calls plan, you'll still need to take mobile calls and 0845/0870 numbers into account. Some packages, like TalkTalk’s Pro package bundle offers discounted calls to mobiles while Virgin Media’s home phone customers get free calls to Virgin mobiles.
Some plans also offer free calls to 0845/0870 numbers during your inclusive calling period.
You also need to think about call connection and set-up fees which can add as much as 13.1p to each chargeable call you make.
