Plusnet (www.plus.net) has a number of home phone packages that combine line rental, calls and broadband with speeds of up to 8Mb. Could you save money by switching to Plusnet? (Updated 3/3/10)
Plusnet, founded in 1997, has become a leading UK broadband provider. It has built its business on innovative new products and well-regarded customer service.
It has around 200,000 broadband customers, as well as offering home phone and VoIP services.
In January 2007, Plusnet was bought by BT (www.bt.com) and it now runs as an independent subsidiary of the telecoms giant.
Plusnet has won numerous awards for its broadband and home phone services, including the Best Consumer ISP at the ISPAs in 2008.
It also came second overall in the Broadbandchoices.co.uk customer satisfaction survey in 2009, with 88% of its customers satisfied with the overall quality and reliability of their broadband.
Plusnet currently offers four home phone and broadband packages. All these bundled packages include line rental, calls and a broadband service with connection speeds of up to 8Mb.
The Plusnet bundles are divided into broadband Value packages, and broadband Unlimited packages. Below is a breakdown of the current deals available:
Plusnet Value + Talk Evenings and Weekends - A home phone and broadband tariff that offers:
Plusnet Value + Talk Anytime - A home phone and broadband tariff that offers:

Plusnet Unlimited + Talk Evenings and Weekends - A home phone and broadband tariff that offers:
Plusnet Unlimited + Talk Anytime - A home phone and broadband tariff that offers:
With any of these home phone deals you will receive one monthly bill from Plusnet, and the company will deal with all aspects of your service, including any faults on the line.
Plusnet’s home phone and broadband packages come with a range of features, including a free wireless router (plus £6.99 p&p), speeds of up to 20Mb and free calls. Plusnet also has competitive call rates to both international destinations and UK mobiles, particularly if you take the unlimited package.
When choosing a package, you’ll need to consider two things:
The benefits of Plusnet’s home phone and broadband packages will depend on what type of user you are. With both of the evening and weekend packages, you’ll get unlimited free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines, free anytime calls to all other Plusnet customers, and 300 free evening and weekend minutes to Plusnet’s 20 top international destinations.
These destinations include Australia, Canada, Cyprus, France, Ireland, New Zealand and Spain, as well as calls to US and Canadian mobiles.
With the anytime packages from Plusnet, you’ll get all the bonuses of the evening and weekend packages, as well as free unlimited anytime calls to UK local and national landlines.
Plusnet Value packages come with an 12-month contract, as do the Unlimited packages. There is no charge if you wish to downgrade or upgrade your package at anytime during the contract.
Customers can pay their monthly bills in a way that suits them - by direct debit, by standing order, cheque or over the phone by credit or debit card. However there is an additional £2 charge for paying by any method other than direct debit.
Switching your home phone service to the Plusnet is really simple, and can be done in minutes, either online or over the phone.
If you already have an active phone line, there will be no interruption to your service, and in most instances you will be able to keep the same phone number. The features you already have, such as caller ID, will stay the same, and you’ll also have exactly the same access to the operator and to emergency numbers.
The switch will be carried out at your local telephone exchange, so an engineer won’t need to visit your house, and the Plusnet will tell your existing home phone and broadband provider(s) that it will be billing you for your line rental, line services, calls and broadband in the future.
If you don’t currently have a phone line, or if you are currently a cable customer (i.e. Virgin Media), you’ll have to contact the Plusnet sales team. Please call them on 0800 694 0016 and they will be able to help you in what to do next.
