If you don't want to sign-up to BT broadband, you can get a BT phone line installed for just £130 if you sign-up to a BT calls package. Speak to BT directly though to find out if any charges will apply (you can call BT on 0800 028 4474). Compare BT calling plans below, and visit www.bt.com/new-line for more information.
If you haven't currently got a home phone line, you will need to have one installed or reconnected by a phone line provider. If a new phone line needs to be installed, BT can usually have you up and running between 14 to 21 days, subject to an engineer's visit and availability.
If you simply need to get reconnected, this should take BT about four working days.
A £130 connection charge will apply for new lines, though this could be less. A connection charge typically applies when there's no suitable BT line available in your property, no dialling tone on the line, or if you have been disconnected in the past for non-payment.
However, it's likely you won't need to pay the charge if your home has had a telephone service from BT in the recent past, the wiring and socket is undamaged and you can hear a dialling tone on the line. A BT engineer will let you know whether or not the connection charge applies to your property before you complete your order, so you can always change your mind in time.
Other telephone providers such as TalkTalk and Virgin Media offer alternatives with the following connection charges:
