The new Primus Line Rental Saver deal is perfect if you’re looking for a phone line just for your broadband, and could save you over £80 a year compared to BT.
The new Line Rental Saver tariff from Primus is a line rental-only deal and costs just £6.29 a month - 50% less than line rental from BT. Although the tariff doesn’t include any free calls, call rates are competitive. The table below has more detailed information:
Primus Saver is an independent home phone provider in the UK since 1996. Although a relatively new name in the UK, it has invested heavily in state-of-the-art technology at its London Docklands headquarters, allowing it to offer customers a discounted phone service through BT Openreach.
The Line Rental Saver tariff is ideal for anyone wanting to save money on their phone bills by getting a line-rental only deal. These kind of tariffs are great if you just need your phone line for your broadband, and you don’t plan on making many calls.
With a line rental-only tariff you will only get your line rental included - any calls you make will be charged for separately. Call charges are competitive though, at just 2p per minute for evening and weekend calls to local or national UK landlines, and 7.4p per minute for calls made during the day.
Customers switching to the Line Rental Saver tariff must pay by monthly direct debit and receive bills online via paperless e-billing.
If you want a package that includes calls, consider switching to Primus’ Home Phone Saver call plan. This tariff includes line rental and free evening and weekend calls, for just £7.99 a month - it is only available exclusively through Homephonechoices.co.uk though.
All Primus customers will receive free basic calling features, including voicemail, 1471 call return and withheld number services. And after the switch to Primus, the company will handle any problems or faults on the line going forward.
All of Primus’ line rental and home phone packages are available to anyone with an existing copper wire phone line (ie a BT line - this doesn’t have to be a line provided by BT, but a supplier who uses the BT network, such as the Post Office).
If you choose to switch to Primus, in most instances you’ll be able to keep you current telephone number. There shouldn’t be a break in your service when you switch, and an engineer won’t even need to visit your house to complete the switch. The entire switching process can take up to 21 days.
If you are moving house or there is currently no home phone line installed in your new property, Primus can install a new line. The work will be carried out by BT Openreach on Primus’ behalf and you will be charged £59 by Primus. It shouldn’t take longer than five days to get connected. Simply ring Primus on 0800 036 0170 to arrange an installation date.
Before making your order to switch, you should check with your current phone supplier that you are not locked into a contract. You should also check with your broadband provider to ensure that switching your home phone will not affect your broadband.
The prices in the table above are based on your paying by monthly direct debit and receiving paperless e-bills. Unfortunately you cannot pay by any method other than direct debit, and if you choose to receive paper bills in the post, you will be charged an extra £1.80 a month.
Primus’ Line Rental Saver call plan comes with a 12-month contract, and there is a £30 early cancellation fee if you switch before the minimum contract period is up.
