What are the inclusive calling hours for Primus?

Hi Simon,

I’m thinking about getting my home phone line rental from Primus with an inclusive evening and weekend call package - but I’m not sure what the inclusive calling hours are.

I want to make sure they cover the times that I’m most likely to be making calls. Can you help?

Hi Karen,

Good question. For anyone with an inclusive evening and weekend calls tariff it is important to know what your inclusive calling hours are so you can avoid incurring charges by making calls at the “wrong” time.

What ‘inclusive calling hours’ means

Inclusive calling hours means the times of the day or night during which you can make free local and national calls from your landline - this usually refers to evenings and weekends.

In Primus’ case, inclusive calls are local and national calls to phone numbers starting 01, 02 or 03.

Calls made to mobiles or international destinations are not free - each provider has its own set of charges for calls to each of the mobile networks and other countries. You will find a complete guide to pricing on the Primus website.

Also excluded from Primus’ free calls are non-geographic numbers (NGNs) prefixed by 0845 and 0870, other premium rate services - such as TV voting lines starting 09, and calls to directory enquiries.

Whether you have inclusive calls, and during what times, depends on which home phone package you take. Primus offers a number of packages which provide free evening and weekend calls, including Primus Home Phone Saver and Primus Home Phone Max. For light users there’s Primus Line Rental Saver (paying extra for all calls).

What are the inclusive hours for Primus and the other main providers?

Provider Provider details Daytime hours Evening hours
Primus www.primussaver.com 8am - 6pm 6pm - 8am
TalkTalk www.Talktalk.co.uk 7am - 7pm 7pm - 7am
BT www.BT.com 7am - 7pm 7pm - 7am
Virgin Media www.virginmedia.com 6am - 6pm 6pm - 6am
Sky www.sky.com 7am - 7pm 7pm - 7am
Post Office www.Postoffice.co.uk 6am - 6pm 6pm - 6am

Things to look out for

  • What time you start and finish your calls - even if you start your phone call during the inclusive hours, if your call continues into non-inclusive hours you will be charged for that portion of the call at the applicable rate. So, if a customer calls his friend at 7:55:00am and then ends the call at 8:05:10pm, the customer will be charged the Daytime rate for the 5 minutes 10 seconds that occur after the inclusive period has ended.
  • Maximum free call duration - make sure you are familiar with the terms and conditions of your particular tariff as even if your home phone supplier offers free evening and weekend calls, many, including Primus, only allow calls to last for 90 minutes before you start being charged.
  • Check weekend start and end times - sometimes the weekend inclusive call times vary, make sure you check for your particular tariff.
  • Be aware of the charges for calls made during non-inclusive times - some providers charge much more than others during non-inclusive times. It can mean that any savings you make from cheap line rental can be blown away with a couple of long chats during chargeable times.

Great website but there's no mention of the 12p to 13p connection charges all providers seem to make but say little about. Try finding this little nugget on there websites! Is a connection charge levied with all calls, free ones as well? - May 17 2012 7:28PM
