Moving home is stressful enough without having to worry about switching your home phone service too. So let the BT Home Mover team do it for you.
Once you know you’re moving, simply give BT (www.bt.com) a call as soon as possible and the Home Mover team will make sure your move goes smoothly.
They’ll sort out your home phone, broadband and digital TV service so they’ll all be up and running as soon as you move in.
Although it usually only takes around a week to organise most moves, it can take longer if there are more services to be switched or if an engineer is required - so try to give BT as much notice as possible.
You can contact the BT Home Mover team free on 0800 100 400 between 8am - 8pm Monday to Saturday and 9am - 6pm on Sundays.
This depends on where you're moving to. If you're staying in the same telephone exchange area, for example Lincoln on 01522, you may be able to do so.
This won’t be possible if you're moving out of the area, but BT will be able to redirect calls to your new number.
If you have broadband and BT Vision as part of a bundle with your home phone package, you should check with BT to find out whether both services will be available at your new address.
You'll be able to get an estimated download speed from BT as well as finding out whether or not there is a Freeview signal at your new postcode.
Whether or not you keep your existing contract or have to sign a new one depends on a number of different factors.
If you're still within your contractual period but move to a postcode where BT is unable to provide services, then you'll be able to end the contract without charge.
If your existing services are available at your new home, then the provider has some important points for you to remember:
The cost of moving your services with BT will depend on which packages you take. If you take a new home phone and broadband package or both services plus TV, then connection will be free of charge.
Otherwise you might have to pay BT’s standard £130 connection charge if the provider has to send an engineer out to your property. However, BT says that “most of our customers find they don’t need to pay this charge”.
If you're currently with a different home phone provider and want to switch to BT, the company will still do all it can to make sure you're connected as soon as you move in.
Again, simply get in touch with BT as soon as possible to check which services are available in your area and to switch home phone provider.
