Compare phone companies

Before you choose your next phone provider, it's helpful to ask yourself the following three questions:

  • How often do you make calls?
  • When do you call? In the evenings, weekends or at any time of the day?
  • Do you make most of your calls to landlines, or call mobile phones most of the time?

Answers to these questions will help you compare home phone providers, and choose a plan that works for you. If you work 9 to 5, an evening and weekend calls package would work best. However, if you make calls at any time of the day, an unlimited anytime calls package may be best.

Last but not least, remember to check whether your prefered phone company charges a connection or setup fee. Our best buy table at the top of this page lists packages with a 'free connection'.

Changing telephone company

Switching landline phone provider is a straighforward process. First, chose a provider from the best buy table at the top of this page, or run a postcode search on our home phone comparison service.

You will need to tell your new phone company your current phone number and postcode. Your new company will then work behind the scenes with your old telephone service provider to arrange the switch. Both companies will then write to you to confirm the transfer and the date on which it will take place.

And in most cases, you will be able to keep your existing phone number. It's as simple as that!
