By Becca Talbot - becca@consumerchoices.co.uk

Saving money on your home phone bills is easy when you know how. Just compare landline deals from BT, TalkTalk, Primus Saver and other providers to see how much you could save. (Updated 1/4/10)

Choosing a landline provider

With so many home phone providers in the UK, it’s understandable that choosing a landline supplier for your home can be a little confusing.

As well as the choice of supplier, there are a variety of different calling plans to choose from, including:

However, its worth noting that by comparing just landline prices, you could be forgetting a large portion of your bills: international calls and mobile calls.

To work out which home phone tariff really is cheapest for your household, you need to consider your call patterns, including which countries you make international calls to and what mobile networks you call and when. You can then compare the call rates charged by the various home phone suppliers to see if there is a better deal for you.

The UK landline market

Because of the number of home phone suppliers that offer phone services in the UK, the competition has helped to drive down prices for consumers. This includes the cost of line rental, calling plans, call connection fees and calling features such as call divert and anonymous caller reject.

If you are looking to come back to BT, it's always a good idea to compare call rates and line rental against other providers. Companies like TalkTalk (www.talktalk.co.uk), YourCalls.net (www.yourcalls.net), Primus Saver and even the Post Office (www.postoffice.co.uk) can offer consumers massive savings when compared to BT (www.bt.com).

I spent two nights to view all the material and compare the plans. However, I still can't figure out a conclusion.

I come back aboard after retirement and had never apply for landline before. I am mainly use mobile phone and internet communication. I also use net-pnone to call relatives and friends in Hong Kong. As a low usage customer, which company and plan should I take. Please advise.
