If you need to get your phone line activated or reconnected, there are two options to choose from: a BT copper wire line or a cable line. But which should you choose? (Updated 22/10/09)

If you choose a BT copper wire phone line, you can choose from a number of home phone providers, including BT (www.bt.com), TalkTalk (www.talktalk.co.uk) and YourCalls.net (www.yourcalls.net).

If you think that a cable phone line would suit your household more, you’ll have to have a new line installed by Virgin Media (www.virginmedia.com). Virgin Media is the only cable phone line provider in the UK.

  • Firstly, visit www.virginmedia.com to check Virgin Media availability in your area - cable services are currently only available in 50% of the UK
  • Virgin Media is perfect if you only want broadband and/or TV services and have no need for a landline.

i phoned last week, and was put on hold for 50 mins,when i did get through to the 6th person she then said i will put u through,i got so fed up,i didnt bother,i have wrothe a letter and have had no responce. all i want to no is when i will be connect. this must be to hard for them to answer as it was taking over six different people to answer. - Mar 10 2010 9:42PM

I have two BT lines one line for telephones. The other line for fax mc
and computer.When the fax mc is pluged to the line the internet does not work or if the internet is connected the fax does not work.
Is there a BT device that allows computer and fax to operate on the same line.I do not want to use the computer as a fax mc - Nov 7 2009 6:54PM

Hi, I`m looking to have a phone line with wireless broadband installed. The building has never had a phone line. Can you tell me if this would be classed as domestic or a commercial line? and How much would installation cost? and monthly line rental?

What is the point of trying to tell me that I can sign up on Broadband Contracts with speeds of (up to) 8MB, when this far (about 6 miles)from the local exchange, more than 1MB is almost impossible, even on an ISDN line. What hope is there for a normal line? NONE - 500KB download is the best I ever get, so why would I pay for an 8MB Contract which cannot deliver? - Jul 22 2009 9:30PM

The bt boxes are already in my house, i have 3 but just want to know how i would go about this?

BT line install in new building is £120. Talk Talk do it for £59.99 (only if you take their broadband)
BT is not the only provider of lanline connections, only the most expensive. - May 28 2009 4:37PM

Hello there I have an enquiry into the possibility of using BT's services to install 3 phone lines all stemming form one already installed phone line in a flat in Edinburgh for one month. If you could please contact me to let me know if this is possible I would greatly appreciate it.
