O2 (www.o2.co.uk), one of the UK’s largest mobile phone operators, also offers fixed-line and mobile broadband contracts. Customers can now save even more by bundling their home phone services with O2 as well. (Updated 19/5/10)

O2’s two home phone packages, Evening & Weekend and Anytime are now available to all O2 home broadband customers. If you’re not already an O2 customer, switching both your broadband and your line rental to the company could help dramatically cut your costs.

Check out some of the packages on offer from O2 in the table below:

About O2 home phone

O2 is part of the Telefónica group and is one of the biggest telecoms suppliers in the UK, for both consumers and business customers. In September 2009 it had over 21 million mobile phone customers and over half a million fixed-line broadband subscribers.

O2’s (www.o2.co.uk) home phone service was launched in May 2010. Its broadband service was launched earlier in October 2007, and has won a number of awards, including:

  • Broadbandchoices.co.uk Customer Satisfaction Survey 2009 - Best Overall Provider
  • Which? Best Buy Winner 2009 - Ease of set up; Value for money; Customer Service; and On-line help
  • uSwitch.com awards 2009 - winner of nine out of 11 awards, including Best Overall Customer Satisfaction, Best Value for Money and Best Technical Support.

O2 line rental and calls

The two new home phone tariffs from O2 include line rental and a calling plan.

O2 mobile customers can sign-up to the unlimited Evening & Weekend Call Plan, which offers line rental, free evening and weekend calls to UK local and national landlines and 8Mb broadband for just £17 a month.

There is also the Anytime Call Plan, that offers customers unlimited calls to UK local and national numbers at any time of the day and line rental, as well as calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers, and calls to international landlines in over 20 countries.

Why should I get an O2 landline?

One of the main advantages of O2’s home phone service is the award-winning broadband connection that each package will be bundled with. The bundled packages will include broadband as well as selected calls and line rental, offering great value for money.

O2’s broadband is available in three packages, with speeds of either 8Mb or 20Mb. All three packages come with “unlimited downloads” and a generous fair usage policy. The company also offers free, UK-based, 24/7 technical support to all its broadband customers, a free wireless router and free McAfee internet security software.

What do I need to get O2 home phone and broadband?

Switching your broadband and home phone services to O2 (www.o2.co.uk) is really easy, and can be done in minutes online. If you already have an active phone line, there will be no interruption to service, and in the majority of cases you’ll be able to keep the same phone number. The calling features you already have, such as caller ID, will stay the same. You’ll also have exactly the same access to the operator and emergency numbers.

The switch will be carried out at your local telephone exchange, so an engineer won’t need to visit your home, and O2 will tell your existing phone and broadband suppliers that it will be billing you for your broadband, line rental and calls.

If you don’t have a phone line, or if you are currently a cable phone customer (i.e. Virgin Media), you will have to arrange to have a line installed by BT. There is normally a charge for this - you can call BT on 0800 028 4474 to discuss landline installation and costs.

Hi, I bought a wireless router in February from 02 so that I will well equipt to take the broadband/homephone package but have delayed activating my router until 02 homephone is launched as it is easier to start both together so that I can leave my current providers Tiscali. Please can you tell me when 02 Homephone will be ready to launch. My broadband is so slow it barely works and to keep complaining to them is costing me about £12 per month by ringing their only number (0871 222 33 11) Please can you advise me as I am now desperate.
