Homephonechoices.co.uk has teamed up with Primus to offer an exclusive line rental deal - you can get Primus Home Phone Saver, which includes line rental and free evening and weekend calls, for just £9.15 a month only through this site. Click the GO button to switch online (Updated 15/12/09)

Primus is in the top 10 of global phone providers and entered the UK market in 1996. Although a relatively new name in the UK, it has invested heavily in state-of-the-art equipment at its London Docklands headquarters.

Primus has two home phone packages which cover both line rental and calls:

  • Primus Home Phone Saver - One of the cheapest line rental deals in the UK. Also includes free evening and weekend calls to local and national numbers
  • Primus Home Phone Max - This includes anytime calls to local and national numbers.

With both these packages, you will get a single bill from Primus and it will handle all aspects of your service, including any problems with your line.

Bear in mind that the prices in the table above are on the basis that you pay by monthly direct debit, otherwise there is an additional £5 charge.

Primus also offers customers itemised paperless billing - you won’t get a paper bill in the post. If you want a paper bill that will cost an additional £1.76 a month.

Primus line rental plans have a 12-month contract length and are subject to a 30 day notice period.

Why should I get Primus Saver home phone?

Primus is one alternative if you are looking for a cheaper line rental and calls package. Primus’ line rental is currently one of the UK's most competitive deals.

However, in order to take advantage of the low rate you must be prepared to pay by monthly direct debit and accept paperless billing.

Homephonechoices.co.uk has an exclusive offer with Primus - you can get Primus Home Phone Saver for just £9.15 a month through this site (a discount of 84p a month on the normal tariff). Primus Home Phone Saver includes line rental and free evening and weekend calls.

You will no longer pay BT (www.bt.com) for your home phone line rental. It also offers free basic voicemail, 1471 call return and withheld number services.

Once you have switched to Primus, it will handle any problems with your line going forward. It has invested heavily in its network and data management centre.

Outside of its packages, Primus also offers low rates for national UK calls and international call rates starting at just 1p per minute depending on the country. As there are some big differences in the amounts charged for calling the various countries, check the country you may call frequently to see if the price is competitive before signing up.

What do I need for Primus Saver home phone?

Primus line rental and home phone packages are suitable for anyone with an existing copper wire phone line i.e. BT line, who isn’t locked into a contract with their current home phone provider.

If you choose Primus, you can usually keep you current telephone number and there won’t be a break in your service. An engineer won’t even need to visit your house to complete your switchover, which will take up to 10 days.

If you are moving house and there is currently no home phone line installed in your new property, Primus can install a new line. The work will be carried out by BT Openreach on Primus’ behalf and you will be charged £105 by Primus. It shouldn’t take longer than five days to get connected.

I can find no reference to VAT in this article. Does the £9.15 include VAT or do I add 17.5% i.e.£10.75. Not that this is not a good deal but it makes a difference. - Mar 4 2010 4:36PM

BE VERY CAREFUL WITH THE CONTRACT AS I WAS ON A 6 MONTH CONTRACT STAYED WITH THIS COMPANY 14 MONTHS CHANGED PROVIDER AND WAS STUNG FOR 4 MONTHS LINE RENTAL. REASON FROM THEM AFTER THE 6 MONTHS IS UP YOU ARE AUTOMATICALLY ON ANOTHER 6 MONTH CONTRACT....RIP-OFF.......A PENALTY OF ONE MONTHS LINE RENTAL WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE NOT £40......BEWARE ALSO THAT EMAILS ARE NOT ANSWERED AND ON THE OCCASSIONS I'VE PHONED THEM IT IS NOT ALWAYS EASY TO UNDERSTAND THE THE PERSON DEALING WITH YOUR QUERY.......FINALLY I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE £10 CREDIT PUT ON MY CALLS AS AN INTRODUCTORY OFFER,CONTACTED THEM A FEW TIMES ON THIS BUT STILL WAITING. - Feb 25 2010 8:52AM

I wish to complain about the maner of the sales rep who came to my house this evening 12.2.10. I commented that he was the second rep from your company that had called during the evening to which he insulted me by saying that i was Hallucinating. I found his mannar extremly rude and intimidating, i would cetainly not deal with your company if this is a taste of your customer servive. - Feb 12 2010 8:49PM
