TalkTalk phone and broadband

By Seamour Rathore - seamour@consumerchoices.co.uk

TalkTalk (www.talktalk.co.uk) has two call plans, and one broadband bundle package. So if you find telephone charges and line rental confusing, consider switching to TalkTalk. It also has a range of free extras including free local daytime calls… (Updated 07/01/10)

TalkTalk home phone was launched by mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse in 2003. In April 2006, the company introduced free broadband, but the launch was beset by well-publicised problems with its customer services. The company has since invested heavily in customer satisfaction, with good results.

TalkTalk home phone won two uSwitch.com best value awards in 2008 – No.1 for best value for money, and no.1 best value for money bundle. The company has also expanded into several European countries and was the first company to offer free international calls between its own customers in different countries.

In April 2009, Carphone Warehouse said it would split its mobile phone operation from the TalkTalk home phone and broadband business.

TalkTalk increased its line rental from £11.25 to £11.49 at the end of 2009 - which is still 5 pence cheaper than BT. This rate is available if you pay by direct debit and sign up for paperless billing (to receive a paper bill it will cost an extra £1.25 a month).

Further inclusive features are:

  • Calling circle - additional discounted calls to 16 named numbers including international and mobiles
  • Free voicemail
  • Nectar points earned on every TalkTalk bill (2 points per £1 spent)
  • Free TalkTalk customer service and technical support calls from your TalkTalk landline

You can also “boost” your home phone package with extras from TalkTalk, costing from just £2 a month. There are four “boosts” to choose from:

  1. Anytime Calls Boost
  2. International Calls Boost
  3. Mobiles Boost
  4. Clever Calls Boost

These will help enhance your home phone deal from TalkTalk and help you save money on your monthly bills.

What do I need for TalkTalk home phone?

To take advantage of TalkTalk’s competitive prices you will have to switch your home line rental to TalkTalk. You will get one bill for both your phone line and calls and TalkTalk will deal with any problem on the line.

Switching you home line rental to TalkTalk will take no longer than 13 days and there shouldn’t be a break in your service. TalkTalk will even liaise with your current supplier to cancel your existing contract.

If you need a brand new phone line or a second line installed TalkTalk will do that as long as you are going to take both home phone and broadband services from the company. TalkTalk is currently running a limited availability offer to install a new or second line for just £59.99.
