Satellite TV company Sky (www.sky.com) has grown into a telecommunications giant, offering not only digital TV, but also broadband and home phone packages. (Updated 11/12/09)
Sky’s home phone service is called Sky Talk. Available to all Sky TV customers, it offers good value line rental and home phone packages, with free evening and weekend calls as well as competitive rates for calls to mobile phones.
Sky Talk was first launched in 2006, and there are currently 9.2 million Sky TV customers in the UK, 1.5 million of which have signed up to Sky Talk.
Sky Talk was voted ‘Best Overall Provider’ in the uSwitch.com home phone customer satisfaction awards last year, after winning seven out of 11 categories, including ‘Best Customer Service’ and ‘Most Likely to be Recommended’.
Because Sky Talk is only available to Sky TV customers, it is part of a bundled package. This means if you’re already with Sky you may be able to save money by taking your home phone package with Sky too. And for even more savings, you could also consider taking your broadband from Sky.
You can also take your line rental from Sky, combining it with your calls package, meaning you’ll only receive one home phone bill a month. This is cheapert than BT at just £11 a month.
The switching process is quick, easy and hassle-free. You can keep your existing phone number, and the Sky service is delivered down your existing BT landline.
However, you may not be eligible for Sky Talk if:
Sky Talk packages are only available to Sky digital TV customers. As well as having Sky digital TV, to receive Sky Talk you will also have to have a compatible BT line.
Sky Talk calls are made through your existing phone line, rather than through a cable or broadband connection. And the service is activated remotely, so a technician won’t need to visit to install anything.
If you are a new customer to Sky, Sky can install a phone line for you from £25.
