Even if you don’t live within Virgin Media’s cable area, you can still take advantage of one of its home phone packages, and even bundle it with 20Mb broadband by signing up to Virgin Media National Broadband (www.virgin.net).
Virgin Media’s National service is its copper wire alternative for non-cable customers. It works in the same way as other ADSL broadband providers, offering broadband through your landline as well as home phone deals and line rental.
With Virgin Media you can build your own bundles, with a choice of three different Virgin home phone plans that can be combined with one of three different broadband deals.
Virgin Media National offers three home phone packages; Talk Weekends, Talk Evening and Weekends and Talk Unlimited. It also offers its own line rental at £11 a month.
If you don’t live in a Virgin Media cable area but want to sign up to Virgin Media, its National service is the answer. Only around 50% of the UK is covered by its cable network, but almost anyone outside of these areas can sign up to one of its National packages.
As well as its line rental and three home phone packages, it also offers three home broadband packages - all with 20Mb broadband and a choice of either a 10GB monthly download allowance or “unlimited broadband”, subject to a fair usage policy.
If you want to take your internet on the go, it also has two mobile broadband packages to choose from.
If you make a lot of calls outside of the standard Talk Weekends inclusive allowance, your bills could soon add up and it might be worth signing up to one of the tariffs better suited to your needs.
For example, it costs 6.36p per minute to make national and local calls outside your package.
Calls to mobiles and overseas are not included in Virgin Media’s National call packages, but you can add tariffs designed specifically for people who make a lot of these kinds of telephone calls.
For example, daytime calls to O2 mobiles costs 15.68p per minute, and a landline call to India will set you back 76.31p per minute. However, you can add Talk Mobile for £1.50 a month and get a 25% discount on all your mobile phone calls, or add Talk International, also £1.50 a month, for cheaper calls to international destinations.
Virgin Media National allows you to take advantage of many of the deals the provider offers, even if you don’t live in one of its cable areas and is a great choice for anyone after a home phone and broadband bundle.
However, it’s important to remember when signing up to the Virgin Media National service that although you can get home phone and broadband, you can’t get Virgin Media digital TV unless you live in a cable area.
