Plusnet has a number of home phone packages that combine line rental, calls and broadband with speeds of up to 16Mb. Could you save money by switching to Plusnet?

Plusnet (www.plus.net), founded in 1997, has become a leading UK broadband provider. It has built its business on innovative new products and well-regarded customer service.

It has around 200,000 broadband customers, as well as offering home phone and VoIP services.

In January 2007, Plusnet was bought by BT (www.bt.com) and it now runs as an independent subsidiary of the telecoms giant.

Plusnet has won numerous awards for its broadband and home phone services, including the Best Consumer ISP at the ISPAs in 2008.

It also came second overall in the Broadbandchoices.co.uk customer satisfaction survey in 2009, with 88% of its customers satisfied with the overall quality and reliability of their broadband.

What does Plusnet offer?

Plusnet currently offers two home phone and broadband packages. All these bundled packages include line rental, calls and a broadband service with connection speeds of up to 16Mb. Below is a breakdown of the current deals available:

Plusnet Value + Talk Evenings and Weekends - A home phone and broadband tariff that offers:

  • Line rental
  • Free unlimited evening and weekend calls to all UK local and national landlines
  • Free evening and weekend calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers
  • Unlimited anytime calls to all other Plusnet home phone customers
  • Broadband with speeds of up to 16Mb
  • 10GB monthly download limit

Plusnet Value + Talk Anytime - A home phone and broadband tariff that offers:

  • Line rental
  • Unlimited anytime calls to all UK local and national landlines
  • 25% discount to top international call destinations
  • Free anytime calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers
  • Broadband with speeds of up to 16Mb
  • 10GB monthly download limit

With any of these home phone deals you will receive one monthly bill from Plusnet, and the company will deal with all aspects of your service, including any faults on the line.

Why should I get a Plusnet phone and broadband bundle?

Plusnet’s home phone and broadband packages come with a range of features, including a free wireless router (plus £6.99 p&p), speeds of up to 16Mb and free calls. Plusnet also has competitive call rates to both international destinations and UK mobiles, particularly if you take the unlimited package.

When choosing a package, you’ll need to consider two things:

  1. When do you make most of your calls? - Do you call people at the weekend, in the evening or during the day?
  2. What kind of broadband user are you? - Do you only use your internet for casual web surfing and emails (low user), or do you download a lot of content, use applications such as the BBC iPlayer, or play online games (high user)?

The benefits of Plusnet’s home phone and broadband packages will depend on what type of user you are. With the evening and weekend package you’ll get unlimited free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines, free anytime calls to all other Plusnet customers, and free evening and weekend calls to 0870 and 0845 numbers.

With the anytime package from Plusnet, you’ll get all the bonuses of the evening and weekend package, as well as free unlimited anytime calls to UK local and national landlines.

Plusnet Value packages come with a 12-month contract, as do the Unlimited packages. There is no charge if you wish to downgrade or upgrade your package at anytime during the contract.

What do I need for Plusnet phone and broadband?

Switching your home phone service to the Plusnet is really simple, and can be done in minutes, either online or over the phone.

If you already have an active phone line, there will be no interruption to your service, and in most instances you will be able to keep the same phone number. The features you already have, such as caller ID, will stay the same, and you’ll also have exactly the same access to the operator and to emergency numbers.

The switch will be carried out at your local telephone exchange, so an engineer won’t need to visit your house, and the Plusnet will tell your existing home phone and broadband provider(s) that it will be billing you for your line rental, line services, calls and broadband in the future.

If you don’t currently have a phone line, or if you are currently a cable customer (i.e. Virgin Media), you’ll have to contact the Plusnet sales team. Please call them on 0808 189 1403 and they will be able to help you in what to do next.

I first became a customer of Plusnet, paying an initial £29.99 on 27/8/10. My first direct debit of £6.49 was taken on 27/8/10 and monthly thereafter until 9/12/11. On 9/1/2012 £11.49 was taken, 9/2/12 £16.49, and on 9/3/12 £11.49. Why these increases and disparities? I note that in January 2007 you were bought by BT. I already have a line rental package from BT, as you were advised when I opened this account. Why was I not advised of your relationship with BT, and given the opportunity to combine both services at a more advantageous rate? Answer please as soon as possible. - Apr 15 2012 4:36PM
