There are many alternative home phone suppliers, with some offering line rental for as little as £7.99 - a saving of £5.61 when compared to BT’s £14.60 monthly line rental charge.

Alternatives to a BT landline

If you haven’t switched home phone provider recently, chances are your landline is supplied by BT. Did you know though, that there are over 18 other home phone providers in the UK that can offer you line rental and calls? Switching to another provider could help you save loads of money on your monthly landline bills.

The biggest chunk of your home phone bill will probably be spent on line rental, which can cost over £16 if you don’t pay by direct debit or opt for online billing. By switching to a cheaper line rental provider, such as Primus or YourCalls.net, you could save over £60 a year on your line rental.

Alternatives to BT calls

BT call charges are also some of the most expensive in the UK, especially when it comes to calling mobile phones or international numbers. Switching to a provider with cheaper call rates could also help you reduce your bills.

Because BT only offers two calling plans (Weekend Calls and Anytime Calls), if you make a lot of calls during the evening but not many during the day, it may worthwhile switching to a tariff that includes unlimited evening and weekend calls, such as the Evening + Weekend Plan from YourCalls.net or the Talk UK Evening & Weekend tariff from TalkTalk.

If you find that you make a lot of calls during the day too, you should compare anytime call plans. Most providers charge a monthly fee for an anytime call plan, however these can be as little as £2.79 a month, like the Primus Home Phone Max tariff for example. It’s a small price to pay for the reassurance that you won’t be hit with a massive bill for making calls during the day.

You should also consider getting a calling plan add-on, such as those on offer from TalkTalk, to get a discount on calls to mobiles and international calls.
